BELMOND, IA – It’s a hard day for Duwayne and Deb Abel as they sift through what’s left of their restaurant Cattleman’s Steakhouse and Provisions.

Rubble is all that’s left of the business they’ve owned for more than 30 years.

“Kind of a whirlwind, you know it’s really hard to comprehend when you walk in there and everything is just really tore up inside. Parts of it are untouched and as typical with a tornado then you walk in other parts, and it’s just in shambles and really breaks your heart you know just really hard breathing when we first walked through there,” said Deb Abel.

Cattleman’s was supposed to open less than an hour before the tornado hit.

Only one employee was there at the time of the storm.

“I was coming out here to work as well and I got a hold of Anthony. We both jumped into the car and drove away probably only hit two-three minutes later,” said Deb Abel.

Now as the Abel’s and the community of Belmond are picking up from the damage the question is where do they go from here.

“So we’re trying to clear out some things. We want to make sure their clear then we’ll work just wait for insurance to let us know what we can do,” said Duwayne Abel.

“It’s really hard because there are a lot of people being in a small area you know a lot of your customers. They might come out two, three times a week and may become family and our employees are family and its been really emotional today to know that we won’t see them like that for a while anyway,” said Deb Abel.
