Polk County will deploy radars, cameras in cars

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Polk County will begin deploying vehicles equipped with radars and cameras to target speeders.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/13IKWa2 ) the sheriff’s office will begin deploying the cars Monday, but officials plan a grace period of about 30 days. During that time, owners of speeding vehicles will be mailed warnings and won’t be fined.

Sgt. Jana Abens says the sheriff’s office will announce an exact date in the coming weeks.

The agency will park vehicles at spots where accidents have occurred due to speeding.

Fines will be sent to owners of vehicles recorded going more than 10 mph over the speed limit.
