Chicago paper apologizes for Boston bombing joke

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Tribune is apologizing for an image in the paper this week that joked about the Boston Marathon bombing in reference to the NHL teams playing for Stanley Cup.

The apology stems from an image in the paper Wednesday that slightly changed a moving tribute it ran in April after the bombing. That tribute read “We are Chicago” above the names of Boston’s sports teams.

This week’s graphic showed a hand that had ripped the word “Bruins” off the page and the phrase, “Yeah, not right now we’re not.”

In a tweet this week, Tribune Editor Gerould Kern said the paper supports Boston, and “We regret any offense.”
