Dubuque council considers pay boost for officials

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — The Dubuque City Council will consider a proposal to give raises to themselves and the mayor.

The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/11FhCzq ) the council on Monday will take up a recommendation from the City Council Compensation Task Force.

That group has recommended increasing the mayor’s annual salary by $1,500 to $13,000 and giving council member a $1,200 raise, to $9,700 annually.

A city memo says the task force made its recommendation after considering the time commitment required of council members and the mayor and comparing Dubuque’s pay with other Iowa cities.

If approved by the council, the raises would take effect Jan. 1.
