Iowa woman accused of stealing $10,000 from father

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A West Des Moines woman has been accused of stealing more than $10,000 from her dependent father.

West Des Moines police say 45-year-old Mary Jo Dahms turned herself in Thursday and was released on bond.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/12M810b ) a warrant was issued for Dahms’ arrest after her brother told police in February that his sister was exploiting their 77-year-old father. A police report says the alleged abuse happened between 2011 and 2013.

Police say Dahms, a registered in-home daycare provider, was in charge of finances for her father, who lives in a Newton nursing home. She’s accused of not taking him to get basic medical care.

Dahms has been charged with first-degree theft and dependent adult abuse. Court records do not list an attorney.
