IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa City man who police say eluded arrest after slipping out of his handcuffs has turned himself in.
Authorities say 22-year-old Pedro Gemartino showed up Wednesday at the Johnson County Jail to face several charges stemming from an incident on May 30.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/11eX5VT ) Gemartino had been pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving. He’s accused of slipping out of his handcuffs as police transported him from a squad car to the county jail.
Authorities failed to locate Gemartino after he fled on foot, and they issued a warrant for his arrest.
Gemartino is charged with driving while barred, along with two felony charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and escape of a felon.
Court records do not list an attorney.
