CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A 50-year-old Dubuque man has pleaded guilty to selling heroin to someone who died from the drug.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says in a news release Monday that Alvin Stanley Briggs, Jr. was convicted after admitting Thursday that he sold $100 worth of heroin in July 2012 to an individual identified in court filings only as S.R., who died as a result of the drug.
U.S. District Court Judge Linda Reade will sentence Briggs after a presentence report is completed.
Briggs faces a sentence of at least 20 years in prison, with a maximum of life imprisonment and a $1 million fine.
The case was investigated by the Platteville, Wis., police department and Dubuque, Iowa, Drug Task Force.
