MASON CITY, IA – It’s National Dump the Pump Day, and people are taking a ride on their local public transits in honor of the day.

For many of us paying for gas and a tune-up on the car can be quite costly.

And that’s exactly what dump the pump day is all about.

The goal is for communities to see how inexpensive riding the public transit buses can be.

Abigail Piippo, and avid rider of the public transit buses, says it’s a choice she made a while ago.

“We don’t have the expense of fixing up a broken down car all the time or worrying about the gas prices going up or down because the price stays the same when you ride the bus,” said Piippo.

This is the eighth year for Dump the Pump Day.

According to American Public Transportation Association, those living in a two person household can save on average, more than 9,000 dollars a year by going down to one car.
