NTSB: Cell Phone Use Contributed to Fatal Crash of Small Plane

Britt Crop-Duster Crash

KIMT News 3 – Federal authorities are releasing the cause of a fatal crop-dusting crash that happened last summer in Britt.

Hancock County officials were called to the scene on July 17 and when they arrived they found the pilot, 38-year-old John Larson of Buffalo Center. Law enforcement says he clipped a power line and walked 100 feet away from the crash after it happened. He died at an Iowa City hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board ruled that Larson was unable to maintain clearance from power lines. They also say, contributing to the accident was the pilot’s distracted attention due to personal cell phone use during flight operations.
