Replica statue of ‘American Gothic’ being moved

INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — A 25-foot-tall replica of Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” farming couple is being moved from Dubuque in eastern Iowa to south-central Iowa’s Indianola.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/11UogkF) that the sculpture by New Jersey artist Seward Johnson, titled “God Bless America,” could arrive on the Simpson College campus in Indianola as early as this week. It is moving from its current home next to the Dubuque Museum of Art.

A going-away party Saturday afternoon marked the conclusion of the piece’s 2 1/2 years in Dubuque.
