Branstad issues disaster declaration due to floods

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad has issued a disaster proclamation for Allamakee County in northeast Iowa due to recent storms and flooding.

Branstad announced the decision Monday. The declaration means that state resources can be used to respond to the storms. These proclamations have been issued in dozens of counties since May.

Branstad also announced that residents of Allamakee and Clayton counties are eligible for a state program that provides grants to low-income families that need aid for things like food, clothing or temporary housing.
