OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — A firefighter and homeowner were injured in a weekend house fire in Ottumwa.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (http://bit.ly/12lDPSl ) the fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the house.

Fire Chief Tony Miller says firefighter Nathan Wilson was inside the house when part of a ceiling and a ladder crashed atop him. He was treated at a hospital and then released. He returned to work Monday.

The homeowner also was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation.

Investigators were trying to determine the case of the fire Monday.

Miller says fighting the fire was made more difficult by the hot, humid weather, but it helped that neighbors brought them plenty of beverages.
