Mo. women held without bond in poisoning case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Two Missouri women accused of poisoning family members with antifreeze are being held without bond.

Fifty-one-year-old Diane Staudte and her 22-year-old daughter, Rachel Staudte, are accused of killing the older woman’s husband and her 26-year-old son and of trying to kill her 24-year-old daughter.

Both women are charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of armed criminal action.

They waived a reading of the charges Monday and entered not guilty pleas. A judge ruled that they will be held without bond until their preliminary hearing next month.

Diane Staudte’s husband died in April 2012, and her son died five months later.

An anonymous tip led authorities to re-examine the deaths earlier this month following the hospitalization of her daughter Sarah.
