MASON CITY, IA – It’s just one more way Mason City is taking the health conscious approach and this time it’s all about the youth impact.
The concessions stands here at the Mason City sports complex are now offering healthier options as the focus for their blue zones initiative.
Low calorie foods and diet drinks replace the commonly found concessions meals in hopes of limiting the effects on children and all spectators.
“One way we can actually curve that and get that back on track is making sure that kids are introduced and are given the opportunity to have the healthier options that we serve at the concessions stand,” said Brian Pauly, Superintendent with Mason City Parks and Recreation.
Brian also mentions that while they do not sell regular soda, they do have options available upon request for diabetics.
“We decided to go with a more healthier approach with the Blue Zones effort. So we made sure that over 50 percent of our options are actually healthy options for the kids and their families down here,” said Pauly.
