Leader of Minn. gay marriage campaign forms firm

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — On the day the U.S. Supreme Court handed down two major gay rights rulings, a leader of the campaign to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota, Richard Carlbom, announced he’s formed a new consulting and public affairs firm.

The focus of United Strategies will be fundraising, coalition building, and government relations.

Carlbom was campaign manager of Minnesotans United for All Families, the group that defeated a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, then persuaded the Legislature to legalize same-sex marriage starting Aug. 1.

He’s teaming up with Sarah Erickson, an aide to St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, and Kristen McMullen, who was finance director for Minnesotans United for All Families.
