CHARLES CITY, IA – After a few weeks of waiting, sports enthusiasts from all around the midwest are flocking to Charles City this weekend.
And thanks to mother nature, they’re all having a lot more fun. It was one year ago that the first annual Charles City Challenge Whitewater Weekend kicked off with not so great weather. Fast forward a year and the gang is back again, this time with enough water for everyone.
“It’s more than just a sport, it’s a way of life for me, it’s a life style for me,” avid kayaker Hannah Childs said.
Many of you may think the sport is a bit too dangerous and kayakers say they can understand that. And although they’re more experienced, they feel those nerves too.
“Am I going to be able to roll the kayak today or whats going to happen water is unknown, you just never know,” Childs said.
Either way, those out on the water say they like to have fun. “I’m just out looking to have fun and a great way to relax,” kayaker John Shultz said.
If you want to get into kayaking, Child’s says you should try and learn under someone experienced. And the fun continues Sunday with yet more water events.
