ROCHESTER, MN – Running a political campaign is not cheap but now there is hope to bring that cost down for candidates in Minnesota, with the refund rally program back in place.

It was suspended in 2009 because of the recession.

But starting today, it’s back and voters are now allowed to contribute up to 50 dollars per person – or 100 dollars per married couple – to a local party or state candidate.

They will eventually receive their full refund back from the state.

And this is good news for those like Mark Liebow, DFL Chair of the Senate District 26.

“Local party units often struggle on a thin budget but we’re really the way that keeps things going, keep these offices open to work for people through out the cycle,” said Liebow.

Voters should receive their refund six to eight weeks after contributing the money.
