3 eastern Iowa banks plan to merge operations

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — Three banks in eastern Iowa are planning to merge this summer, so they’ll be able to offer customers services at eight locations.

The owner of Central State Bank of Muscatine, Freedom Security Bank of Coralville and Kalona and West Chester Savings Bank of Washington announced the merger on Tuesday.

Central Bancshares Inc. says the merger should go smoothly because all the banks use the same computer systems.

Central State Bank president Bob Howard says customers shouldn’t notice many changes initially, but the banks will work behind the scenes to allow customers to visit any of the branches.

And the individual banks won’t immediately change their names. The merger includes bank branches in Washington, Kalona, Coralville, Wilton and Muscatine.
