AUSTIN, MN — The Hormel Foundation has stepped to the plate to move the Hormel Institute Expansion forward.
The Foundation is contributing 23 million dollars to the Institute.
Thirteen and half million dollars will go towards the expansion project, while the rest of the money will go towards recruitment of top scientists and staffs to Austin.
Foundation leaders say they are thrilled to get the project going.
“I think it’s really exciting times in Austin, Minnesota at this time,” Treasurer Jerry Anifinson said. “This is a major construction project and a major people project and I think the citizens of Austin are really excited.”
The Institute expansion will break ground this year and is scheduled to be completed in 20-15.
20 new laboratories will be added, along with up to 100 new jobs.
