Dubuque building renovation project gets $2.2 M

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — A project to renovate the Linseed Oil Paintworks Building project in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District has been awarded a $2.2 million federal grant.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced the federal community development block grant Friday.

The $3.5 million renovation of the Linseed building will include the creation of 15 new apartments. The building will have a handicapped-accessible social area and a garden on the roof.

The project is intended to help address the shortage of workforce housing and will continue the redevelopment of older and under-utilized buildings in Dubuque.

A 2009 Iowa Finance Authority housing study indicated a need for 557 new rental units in Dubuque, with emphasis on downtown location.
