HOLLANDALE, MN – For Don and Irene Jones, this whole scene in front of them is shocking.

“I was going away with my sisters and I went to say goodbye to my husband and I saw the smoke next door and called 9-1-1 and it went out of hand,” said Irene Jones.

And what was inside those buildings are items that hold a lot of memories for the Jones family.

From clocks to toys and even cars, one of the buildings held entire collections of antiques.

And next door, a local renter had motorcycle parts and other items he sold, all stored in the 2nd building.

“I said oh my god, there is smoke coming out. I said oh my god so I grabbed my husband and my son and they both acted really fast and got the skid loader trying to move all my cars away from the building,” said Irene Jones.

But the structure also held other memories as well.

Locals, like Robert King, are sharing their stories of working in the buildings years ago…when it was used as part of an onion and potato company.

“Well when I was young I used to work there. My dad and my uncles and me, used to work there. When I was in high school and after in fact I was small when some of these buildings were built and it’s a lot of history going down,” said King.

King lives next door and couldn’t believe it when he saw the building in flames.

“Well first thing I was thankful for was there was no wind, if there had been wind here the whole town could have having a problem,” said King.

For Irene and her family she’s grateful that no one was hurt, and for those who helped bring the fire under control.

She says that’s what she will remember the most.

“Good friends, God bless their super, super people. I felt terrible that this had to happen, I don’t know the reason why it happened I have no idea,” said Jones.

One firefighter did go have to receive medical attention from smoke inhalation.

Many of the other firefighters were working together to make sure each one of them were ok health wise.

More than 30 antique cars were in the building at the time of the fire.

But the Jones tells us there are more stored outside the town because they all couldn’t fit in the one area.
