NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — A 20-year-old Iowa man reported missing while on a hitchhiking and train-hopping trip across the country has turned up in Montana and called his mother.
Susanne Landgrebe, of Newton, says son Daniel Landgrebe called on Saturday night to check in from Big Sky, Mont. He hadn’t known that his mother had reported him missing on July 1.
She’d last heard from him on June 24, although he had said he would contact her every two to three days.
Susanne Landgrebe says Daniel told her that he had asked someone to call her for him eight days ago because he was going into an area without cellphone reception or access to a pay phone. That person didn’t make the call, however.
