AUSTIN, MN — Same sex marriage applications are available in yet another southern Minnesota county.
Applications are now ready in Mower County. Earlier this year Olmsted County became the first in our viewing area to accept them.
Same sex marriages became a reality in May when the state legislature passed a bill legalizing it.
These types of marriages will start in the Gopher State in August.
“We researched it and looked into it,” Mower County Deputy Auditor/Treasurer Melissa Deters said. “We just got the application done late last week. So, today is the first day we are accepting the same-sex marriage application.”
She adds same-sex couples who wish to get married on August first need to have their application turned in by July 26th.
