Iowa City police: Man set car on fire for revenge

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in Iowa City have accused a man of accidentally setting fire to a vehicle he thought belonged to a drug dealer.

An Iowa City police complaint says 57-year-old Jerry William Titus told officers he set fire to the car at an apartment complex on June 23 to get revenge on a dealer who cheated him on a drug sale. The car actually belonged to another apartment resident.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports ( ) Titus was later at the Johnson County Jail on unrelated charges when he told officers about the fire.

Titus faces a felony charge of second degree arson. Court records do not list an attorney.
