WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo police say a woman whose body was found in the Cedar River was the victim of an accidental drowning.
The body of 35-year-old Shanda Fawn Werkmeister, of Waterloo, was recovered from the river Tuesday.
Her body was spotted near an asphalt plant after officers were sent to the scene to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked off the roadway on a gravel drive. Police say the car was owned by Werkmeister’s mother, who told officers she hadn’t seen her daughter for a couple of days.
Capt. Tim Pillack says Thursday that her death was ruled an accidental drowning after an autopsy was completed.
