KIMT NEWS 3 — If it is nearing time to fill your gas tank, the sooner the better.
Gas prices are expected to go up anywhere from five to 20 cents in our area.
Right now both Minnesota and Iowa average just under $3.50 a gallon.
Experts at gasbuddy.com say there are two major factors for the expected price increase; one being the situation in Egypt and the other being a drop in inventory.
Some Florida residents making a trip to Mount Rushmore have noticed the difference.
“Gas was like $3.27 a gallon. When we got to the Chicago area it was like $3.85 and $3.41 here, which isn’t bad, but if it jumps up another 20 cents, it’s going to put a crimp in our fun money,” said Mike Pesko of Tampa Bay.
Those at Gas Buddy say it is still too early to tell when gas prices should be going back down. They say next weeks Energy Information Administration report should shed some more light on it.
