KIMT NEWS 3 – When Mark McKinley sees an opportunity in front of him, he goes for it.
So he said yes to be a part owner of a gas station.
“I was previously a GM dealer and I was at a meeting one day and they were talking about E85 in the early stages and on the way home I thought well we own this station, we’ve got the capacity to do this,” said McKinley.
After learning about what E85 had to offer, he decided to do things a little differently
McKinley partnered with Absolute Energy just down the road, and started purchasing gas from them.
That’s when things took an interesting turn.
McKinley lowered his price of E85 to fewer than three dollars.
That put his gas station first in the nation last week with the lowest price of the fuel.
“Hard to believe little old St. Ansgar that we could get this done because its something that we just didn’t think we could get this good of a price on this stuff,” said McKinley.
And folks around the area are filling up on that happy news.
“People are talking and that’s why we did it. We want them talking the more people we can get out there and looking. You could literally drive in from Mason City, fill up and save money and do with it,” said McKinley.
Rick Schwarck, President of Absolute Energy couldn’t agree more.
“There selling more gallons at each station, their getting more traffic and the percentage of dollars per customer thought the doors are higher. So it’s a three-fold win for them and the consumer,” said Schwarck.
Schwarck says the partnership his company made with buyers like McKinley was a business move he doesn’t regret.
“I’m very happy to see it working out so well and I would expect to see people and consumers when they go to buy a lot of used cars out there that are flex-fuel capable,” said Schwarck.
And McKinley says he just wants to people fueled up with the good pricing.
“I’d like to see the day where its a $1.99 haven’t been there for a long time,” said McKinley.
