URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have lifted an evacuation order for a residential area of Urbandale that was affected by a gas main break.
Urbandale police spokesman Randy Peterson says residents within a quarter mile of the Des Moines suburb were told they could go back home Friday shortly before 2 p.m. About 260 homes were affected.
The break was reported around 11 a.m. Friday. Urbandale Fire Chief Jerry Holt says work was being done on a 2-inch line when the break occurred. Authorities ordered the evacuation over concern that the gas would enter the sewer system.
At one point, officers went door-to-door to notify residents about the evacuation. No injuries were reported.
