MASON CITY, IA – A new program is launched at the Mercy Cancer Center and it aims at helping cancer survivors regain their strength and balance after their treatment.

Physical Therapist Sara Leining said, “everybody’s survivorship is different so it can be a difference of fatigue may be making them appropriate for this plan of care, could be weakness, could be pain and we can help everybody that is getting ready to get back into their everyday life, making it easier for them.”

The program has one patient so far but has a lot of interest.

Sharon Enabnit, a patient of the Star Program, has gone through the therapy program and is about to graduate.

“It’s helped me focus on like getting back to my life, the way it was before because i was never a sick person I was always very active,” Enabnit said.

For Sharon, the physical therapy is helping with her fatigue and balance.

“I would highly recommend this for anybody, whether they’re getting their treatment or when they finish their treatment to help them just get back into life as they knew it before.”
