Police: Iowa woman hits son with car, drives away

STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) — A Storm Lake woman has been accused of hitting her teenage son with a vehicle and driving away.

Storm Lake police say 33-year-old Esmeralda Vasquez-Espinoza got into an argument with her 17-year-old son Thursday night.

Police say at some point, the side of Vasquez-Espinoza’s vehicle hit the teenager, who was trying to stop his mother from driving away. The boy was knocked to the ground and Vasquez-Espinoza drove away.

The Sioux City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/10RGJ53 ) the teen was treated at the scene. Vasquez-Espinoza was charged with misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident and not having a driver’s license. Police also filed a report with the state Department of Human Services.

Records do not list an attorney for Vasquez-Espinoza.
