MASON CITY, IA – “It’s now up to you us”, says one community organizer after Mason City’s is declared one of three finalists for a National prize.
As part of the Parker’s Woods Playground Project, community organizers took part in a “Write to Play” contest sponsored by Playworld Systems.
Finalist were announced recently and Mason City is among three other cities around the country in the running for a new playground to be built.
For one organizer, she says it’s going to come down to the communities support.
“We’re 80 votes behind the leader which is actually a small margin. If I could find one hundred more people to vote each day through Tuesday for this contest, we could be back into first place and win this for Mason City. This potentially could mean upwards of $20,000 dollars in play equipment for Mason City,” said Sarah Swegle, founder of Friends of Parker’s Woods.
Their Facebook page is open for daily votes. Look for the “Write to Play” banner and vote for Parker’s Woods Park in the Early Childhood section.
“It’s wonderful national exposure to put Mason City on the map. We have raised enough funds to put in the long 5-12 year old play set but this would allow us to install the 2-5 year old early childhood play set this summer in addition to the large play set we have,” said Swegle.
