IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Volunteers are removing sand from bags originally placed around Iowa City ahead of rising waters last month.
Volunteers will meet Saturday morning to continue emptying sandbags that were placed near residential areas and businesses. City staff recently collected the bags and put them in storage.
The sand will be used for winter street sanding and other public works projects.
Volunteers must be 14 years or older, and participants under 18 need a liability waiver.
