GARNER, IA – Even with the warm weather we’ve been seeing this summer, golf course owners have seen fewer players on their greens.
In Garner, the city council is considering buying the Garner Golf and Country Club to help revive the course and take away some of the tax burdens the current owners have been experiencing.
Mayor of Garner, Kenton Micks said, “when it came to a point where they financially needed to look at different options, it was something that the city felt that there was no way you could allow it to be plowed up as has happened in some areas and it’s just too beneficial to the community and an asset we needed to keep.”
Garner’s city council is took a tour of the course Monday night to see what the facilities have to offer.
No decisions have been made yet on whether or not the city will become the new owners of the course but mayor micks said that the course will remain open and nothing will be decided until after the golf season.
