DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad routinely spends much of his time on the road to meet with constituents and promote the state.
The Des Moines Register reviewed Branstad’s travel records (http://dmreg.co/1bCgqnY ) and found that the governor visited all 99 Iowa counties in the past year and took 23 out-of-state trips.
Branstad is returning from a 10-day trade mission to Europe on Monday. After that, he will have spent at least part of 98 days in the previous 413 days outside of Iowa.
Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds also travels extensively, has led a trade mission to Southeast Asia and twice visited Germany.
Brandstad’s spokesman Tim Albrecht says face-to-face meetings are important and help the governor lure new businesses to Iowa.
Branstad’s travel schedule is similar to previous governors.
