ALBERT LEA, MN — This hot and steamy weather is causing folks to ramp up the power usage.
And that is causing some, such as Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services to issue Peak Alerts.
They are asking customers to lower usage from 11 am until 7 p.m. tonight.
It’s a move that conserves energy and has an impact on energy costs in the future.
“What that really does is as the costs for this summer become incorporated into our whole sale power cost, that’s going to have an upward pressure on rates in the future,” Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services Mike Murtaugh said.
With hotter weather in the forecast, he says this might not be the first peak alert issued this week.
He adds saving energy is as easy as turning the air conditioner up a few degrees or using the dishwasher later at night.
