ALBERT LEA, MN — Freeborn County leaders have their eye on an abandoned railroad line.
The county has made a 1.1 million dollar offer to acquire more than 12 miles of abandoned rail line from Union Pacific Railroad.
The line runs from Albert Lea all the way north to Hartland.
County leaders tell us it’s something that’s been in the works for a couple of years.
“If you look at the possibilities here, not just a 12 mile whatever route, but it all comes to here and what the future connections will hold, it would be an exciting opportunity,” Country Administrator John Kluever said.
He says the county has yet to discuss what they would do with the land if they end up succeeding with the bid.
