WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo man has been charged with animal torture, accused putting a dog in a running a clothes dryer.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1bRfpsf) that 25-year-old Zachary Lee Smith was arrested Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison.
A woman who lives with Smith reported to police that from January through March, the dog suffered multiple injuries, including a broken bone in its left leg, broken tail and displaced right hip that required surgery to repair.
The woman told police that Smith acknowledged putting the animal in the dryer and flipping the dog in the air and allow it to hit the ground.
Smith has been released on a $5,000 bond.
