DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A rally is scheduled in Davenport one week after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin.
The Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network organized the “Justice for Trayvon” rallies Saturday outside federal buildings in 100-plus cities, including Davenport.
The rallies are intended to press for civil rights charges against Zimmerman.
The Quad-City Times reports (http://bit.ly/1bR7Qlq) that the rally at Davenport will be noon to 2 p.m. across from the U.S. Courthouse.
The Florida case has become a flashpoint in debates over guns, race relations and self-defense laws. Zimmerman identifies as Hispanic. Martin was black.
Sharpton wants the Justice Department to pursue a case.
