CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Prosecutors are seeking to keep a Charles City man behind bars while he awaits trial on charges of stealing firearms.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has appealed a magistrate’s order last week to release 40-year-old Randy Patrie under the condition that he stay in his home and face GPS monitoring.
District Judge Linda Reade stayed the release order while she considers the request to detain Patrie.
Prosecutors filed a motion calling Patrie a “serial burglar” whose release would pose a danger. His defense attorney says in a filing that the release conditions ordered by the magistrate were “fitting and appropriate.”
Patrie is expected to be arraigned Thursday on charges of stealing firearms from Gilbert’s Yard Sale in Floyd, possessing stolen firearms, possessing firearms as a felon, and possessing two sawed-off shotguns.
