Carousel has been spinning in Iowa for a century

STORY CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Story City Antique Carousel is still turning after 100 years.

KCCI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/11htB9E ) the carousel in the city’s North Park was built in New York in 1913.

It was shipped to Iowa and traveled to county fairs until being set up permanently in Story City in 1938.

The Herschell-Spillman Company attraction includes hand-carved wooden animal figures, including 20 horses, two roosters, two pigs and a couple dogs.

The carousel opens each day at noon until Labor. Cost is $1 a ride.
