CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A West Branch man who’d been granted a new trial has been convicted of lesser charges in the death of his 3-month-old daughter.
Cedar Rapids station KGAN says (http://bit.ly/17FsVMj) 34-year-old Curtis Miller was given 15 years in prison on Wednesday, after being convicted of child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter. His infant daughter died Oct. 11, 2007.
In November the Iowa Court of Appeals granted Miller a new trial, saying mistakes were made during jury deliberations. He was serving a 50-year sentence.
He chose to take the plea deal for the lesser charges, averting the need for the second trial.
