MASON CITY, IA – With school being just a month away, one area non profit organization is doing their part to get kids ready.
The United Way of North Central Iowa is asking for some help in the donation of new or gently used athletic shoes.
This is the third year the organization has done this, and it’s all to help kids who may not be able to afford those new sneakers, to have some for the school year.
Drew Norton, with United Way of North Central Iowa, says it never gets old seeing the kids’ face when they receive their new kicks.
“Their faces light up when they get these new pairs of tennis shoes. These are kids that have worn shoes for the last 3 years, might have a hole in them. Might be more duct tape than actual shoe, and the kids are very excited to receive them,” said Norton.
Norton says this year the donations are coming in a bit short.
The shoe drive ends August 16th.
