MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — A 46-year-old former police officer in Muscatine has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman.
The Iowa Public Safety Department said Friday that Thomas Tovar was in Louisa County Jail. Court records don’t list the name of his attorney.
The department says a woman reported that Tovar had given her a ride to her hotel after he stopped the vehicle she was in on Feb. 13. She told investigators that she’d been intoxicated and that her memory of what occurred after the traffic stop was hazy. She says a friend found her the next morning, naked in the hotel bed.
The woman reported the incident that morning.
The Public Safety Department says interviews and DNA tests led to the arrest of Tovar, who has resigned from the Muscatine Department.
