IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A custodian has filed a discrimination lawsuit against his employer, the Iowa City Community School District.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/13KAIZc) that Hung Le says in the lawsuit that he was passed over for a promotion because of his race. The lawsuit was filed last week.
His lawsuit says Le was working as a night custodian in 2010 when he applied for two similar positions at different district schools that would have provided better hours and a raise.
Le’s lawsuit says he was told he was not suited for promotion because English was not his first language. He says he’s fluent. Le says he came to the U.S. from Vietnam in the early 1970s.
A district spokeswoman didn’t immediately return a message from The Associated Press on Friday.
