Iowa man at scene of blaze charged with arson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A 19-year-old Des Moines man has been charged with arson after hanging around the scene of a fire in an eastern section of the city and asking firefighters about the blaze.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/16mUiJL) that Lequan Lee Clark was arrested early Friday morning after firefighters were called to a fire at a vacant home shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday. The front of the home was burning when firefighters arrived.

Ted Jefferson, a Des Moines fire marshal, says Clark hung around the scene and started asking firefighters questions “that raised suspicion.”

Clark is charged with second-degree arson. He was being held in the Polk County Jail on $10,000 bond.

Damage to the home was estimated at $40,000.
