MASON CITY, IA – A new twist on a North Iowa tradition is coming to town. Newman Catholic Schools hosts a marathon every fall, but this year organizers are taking the event to the next level.
Mud runs like the Tough Mudder and Warrior Dash are becoming a popular trend all across the country. They add a fun challenge to your typical race.
And folks from all over Iowa and Minnesota are invited to come and get a little muddy in Mason City.
The Slippery Saints Mud Run is set for August 10.
It’s a 3 mile course featuring 23 different obstacles and soon the open field at the North Iowa Events center will be covered with mud.
One of the obstacles already in place is a wall participants will have to scale.
It’ll be a challenge but mostly tons of fun.
Mud run committee members say, they’ve been able to get creative with building the different obstacles, but as you can imagine, setting up takes a lot of hard work.
Executive Committee Member, Stever Fettther said, “The biggest challenge in getting this prepared is getting 23 obstacles ready in a short amount of time, because we’re only allowed about 7 days before the event to get everything set up. So we’ll have to make mud – and the obstacles has been the biggest challenge.”
All money from entry fee’s will go towards Newman Catholic Schools and community projects including the Mason City Fire Department, Blue Zones, the Events Center, and the United Way.
