DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines Water Works says it’s reached a $200,000 fundraising goal to renovate its park.
Officials announced Wednesday that the money will be used to integrate the ecological and social function of the park and river, which is located near the downtown area.
The plan will be developed by a consultant team that was selected through a competition in January 2012.
Grants and funds totaled $165,000. Private donors contributed an additional $35,000.
The 1,500-acre Water Works Park provides the main water supply for the city. It also connects to an extensive trail network.
