AUSTIN, MN — Austin residents may want to think twice before putting up a garage sale sign.
With a city ordinance in place, the Austin Police Department reminds folks to make sure they are putting signs up in the right locations.
They’ve had to remove several signs this summer.
Residents can post signs in their own yards, by skinner’s hill and near packer arena.
“We want to encourage people to be able to have those,” Captain Dave McKichan of the Austin Police Department said. “We just want to make sure the signs for the sales are in a safe, appropriate spot and that they don’t clutter the city or liter the city.”
He says placing the signs by public road ways or anywhere else is illegal and that officers will remove those signs.
