Driver cited when car lurches forward, hits boy

CENTRAL CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a 12-year-old boy was hurt in Central City when a motorist pressed her car’s accelerator rather than the brake.

The sheriff’s office says the accident happened Thursday morning when 89-year-old Anna May Hinton, of Central City, was trying to pull into a parking space at the post office.

She apparently hit the accelerator rather than the brake, causing her car to lurch forward and hit the boy, who was standing in front of the post office.

He was taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies cited Hinton for driving without a license.
