ALBERT LEA, MN — A new trend in water sports will be coming to Myre-Big Island in Albert Lea.
As part of a pilot program, the park will be getting stand-up paddle boards for people to rent.
Paddle boarding is a board similar to a surf board, and propelling it around on water with a long paddle.
Park leaders tell us they hope it will attract younger folks to the parks, while also adding another option for people to enjoy the venue.
“We’ve been making a concentrated effort to try and connect with the younger folks,” Park Manager Jerry Katzenmeyer said. “And this is one thing that typically does appeal to the younger generation.”
The park will be one of eight parks getting the boards from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
He says the boards should be in and ready to rent in two weeks.
